In short, no, patients should not eat before dental implant surgery. Many patients wonder how to prepare for their dental implant procedure. Here are a few tips we would like to offer to make your procedure as safe and comfortable as possible:
- Do not eat or drink, including water, at least six hours before your dental implant surgery.
- Please take your regularly scheduled medication with a small sip of water.
- Do not smoke or use tobacco products at least 12 hours before your appointment. We also recommend cutting back on smoking as much as possible before surgery and stopping altogether, if possible.
- Wear loose-fitting clothing, and do not wear makeup, dentures, contact lenses, jewelry, or nail polish.
